The simple sentence.
A sentence is an orderly arrangement of words that makes sense .
The simple sentence is formed by a subject and a predicate,e.g:
We are Engineering students.
Subject: unit about which something is said.
Predicate: unit that says something about the subject.
The subject is always a noun or a pronoun.
The subject generally comes at the beginning of the sentence, and is usually placed
before the verb.
The subject may include modifiers, e.g:
Henry studies at the University.
We are busy today.
The first month of the year is January.
Subject.
The simple subject is just a noun or a pronoun, without adjectives or modifiers, e.g:
The new students of English like to read a lot.
The complete subject includes everything that goes along with the noun or the
pronoun.
Predicate.
The predicate usually includes other units such as modifiers and complements.
A triangle is a geometrical figure having three sides.
The indispensable part of the predicate is the verb.
The verb may express action, existence, occurrence, feeling or mental activity.
The simple predicate includes just the verb.
The complete predicate is what is left over when you take away the complete subject.
