Lescano Maco Reinaldo Alejandro Special days Father's Day is always on the third Sunday of June. We usually celebrate our dads and all the people who take care of us, like grandfathers or uncles. We often say thank you for their love, support, and hard work. My family normally eats lunch or dinner together at home. Sometimes, we make cards or small gifts to show our love. We never buy expensive presents because it is not necessary. I always help my mom cook the food. After eating, we usually play games or watch movies. We often talk and laugh a lot. We do not go out or travel on this day.
VALENTINE'S DAY IN PERU Valentine’s Day is celebrated every February 14th in Peru. It is a day to express love, affection, and friendship by giving chocolates, flowers, cards, or spending time with loved ones. Although it is not a traditional Peruvian holiday, it has become very popular, especially among young people and couples. Many enjoy going out for dinner, walking in the park, or planning a surprise for someone special. At school, we usually celebrate Friendship Day with decorations, kind messages, and fun activities like “Secret Valentine,” where students give anonymous gifts. Classrooms are decorated with red and pink hearts, balloons, and handmade cards. At home, my family prepares a simple but special dinner. Sometimes we bake cookies or cupcakes and share stories or music together. There are no fireworks or parades, but stores and streets are full of heart-shaped decorations, love songs, and romantic messages. People often wear red, pink, or white to symbolize love and joy. Valentine’s Day is important because it reminds us to be kind, show appreciation, and value the people who make our lives better every day.
Fabian Pisfil Fiestas Patrias is celebrated every July 28th in Peru. It's a day to express the love we have for our country, together with our families. It's a traditional Peruvian holiday, full of praise and gratitude for our heroes. Many people enjoy going out to eat different traditional dishes. In schools, it's decorated with handmade Peruvian flags and national symbols. At home, my family prepares delicious traditional dishes, such as causa, lomo saltado, and pisco sour. There are no fireworks, but there are army parades in Lima. People are filled with joy when they see them pass by. Fiestas Patrias is important for our country because it reminds us how proud we should be to be Peruvians.
Sahori Castro Calixtro A special day for me and many Peruvians is the Día de la Canción Criolla, celebrated every year on October 31st. This day honors criolla music, a traditional Peruvian genre that includes marinera, festejo, tondero, and vals criollo. Although it falls on the same day as Halloween, many people usually prefer to celebrate Peruvian culture. It’s a time to remember traditions, enjoy music, and share delicious food. There are often concerts, live music, and dances in public places and schools. Students frequently perform dances or sing songs in school events. People generally spend this day with their families and friends. In my case, we usually celebrate at my grandmother’s house. Each family brings a typical dish like anticuchos, ají de gallina, or arroz con pollo. We always have a cooking contest, and sometimes we sing and dance too. Some people wear traditional costumes, like colorful skirts or elegant suits. Children at school usually dress up for performances. There are rarely fireworks or gifts, but people frequently decorate their homes with Peruvian flags, music notes, and pictures of famous singers like Chabuca Granda or Zambo Cavero. This day is very important because it celebrates Peruvian identity. It helps us keep our culture alive with pride.
Mendoza Ulloa Danisca Christmas is celebrated on December 24th and 25th in Peru. It is a special holiday to remember the birth of Jesus and spend time with family and friends. People decorate their homes with lights, nativity scenes, and Christmas trees. On Christmas Eve, families gather for a special dinner at midnight. They often eat panetón (fruitcake) and drink hot chocolate, even though it’s summer in Peru. After dinner, they exchange gifts, hug each other, and say “¡Merry Christmas!” At school, children celebrate Christmas by singing songs, making crafts, and decorating the classroom. They also learn about values like love, peace, and sharing.
It is a joyful time when families come together, visit churches, and thank God for their blessings. Christmas in Peru is a mix of tradition, religion, and family love.
New Year in Peru (Avila Flores Viviana) New Year is celebrated on December 31st and January 1st in Peru. It is a special moment to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new one with hope and joy. People usually spend this holiday with family and friends. Many families decorate their homes with yellow flowers, balloons, and candles, which are symbols of good luck. On New Year's Eve, they gather at night to share a special dinner. They often eat turkey, rice, salads, and drink wine or other festive beverages. After dinner, they exchange good wishes and hugs at midnight while fireworks light up the sky. In some places, people wear yellow clothes or carry suitcases to attract good luck and travel opportunities. Children also celebrate at home or
with neighbors, learning about the importance of hope, gratitude, and setting goals. It is a joyful celebration where everyone gives thanks for the blessings of the past year and looks forward with excitement to new dreams and opportunities in the year to come.
