1.- What's the use
It is used -in present, past and future- to affirm that someone was already, is or will be
used to some. If you are used to something, you have often done or experienced it; it is
not strange, new or difficult for you.
I´m used to working hard – Estoy acostumbrado a trabajar duro.
Be used to: se usa para hablar de algo a lo que estamos acostumbrados, de nuestros
hábitos y se usa en una estructura be used to + v-ing y se usa en tiempo presente
2.- Grammar structure
Be used to se forma conjugando el verbo "to be" en función del tiempo verbal y el tipo de
oración (afirmativa, negativa o interrogativa) + "used to" + verbo acabado en -ing /
sustantivo / pronombre.
Structure: Be used to + noun phrase or verb (-ing form)
Sujeto + be used + to + gerundio.
3.- Examples
Afirmativas
I am used to getting up early (estoy acostumbrado a levantarme temprano).
She was used to the Irish weather (estaba acostumbrada al clima de Irlanda).
Negativas
He isn't used to working on Saturdays (él no está acostumbrado a trabajar los
sábados).
They weren't used to long journeys (no estaban acostumbrados a los viajes largos)
Interrogativas
Are you used to travelling by bus (¿estáis acostumbrados a viajar en autobús?)
Yes, we are / No, we aren't
Yes, I am / No, I am not
Were they used to the Spanish heat? (¿estaban acostumbrados al calor de
España?)
Yes, they were / No, they weren't
