The mcu college of dentistry's aruga program is a student care initiative aimed at improving academic performance and board examination results. Launched in 2012, the program includes various pass the board initiatives such as headstart program, peer tutoring, integrated review, and diagnostic and assessment examinations. The college also collaborates with the faculty of medicine to address weaknesses in basic medical subjects and conducts focus group discussions with students to gather feedback for curriculum improvements.

In the practice of Dental Profession, patients look for Care, Compassion and Empathy therefore Intellectual competence is not enough ; In MCU College of Dentistry, teaching and student relationship is our “Breath of Life” or “vitalizing principle”. Different programs and initiatives was developed by the College since 2012. The launching of “Malasakit Program” who was later on changed to “ Aruga Program” initiated by the Student development chair aimed to improve academic performance of the students and the results of the Board examination. Under this program, different Pass the Board initiatives and activities was launched. The Alay sa Pagunlad (Pass the Board Initiatives) is compose of Different programs/strategies of MCU COD to improve the board performance of the College. Included in this program are the following: Headstart Program, Peer Tutoring program, Integrated Review program and Diagnostic and Assessment examinations ( Mock board examination , OSCE and Dexterity Examination). To address the weakness of the College in Basic Medical Subjects, MCU College of Dentistry collaborated with the Faculty of the College of Medicine. This has been ongoing since 2017. To improve the review program of the College a study on enrichment of the review course was conducted. This was implemented integrating all subjects in a review course and improving the way examination was conducted yielding favorable results in the program. The importance of including student input in education is widely accepted as a key component of processes used to monitor the quality of academic programs. Students’ views of particular courses and instructors are frequently shared from one graduating class to another. Because of this, The Dean of the College makes it a point to find time and ask student’s input during a meeting with the examinees to gather suggestions for the improvement of the College’ instruction and curriculum through a Focus Group Discussion with students wherein they are asked to respond equally to positive and potentially
negative aspects of their educational experience. The College use these findings to guide modifications that will enhance the overall dental education experience of the students. ARUGA: a tagalog word for Caring is a Total Student Care Program initiated MCU College of Dentistry because we believe that Learning in our College is not just passing the subject, completing the clinical requirements and passing the Licensure exam but rather We help by caring in transforming our student into a responsive professional and leader that can in turn affect change. It is our advocacy as we hold on to our mission to help our students to continuously strive for academic excellence and clinical competence that we prepared this Aruga Program by living and practicing the Core Values of the University.
