Theory X infers that people are apathetic and have a tendency to evade tasks at any time. Hence, workers have to be intently overseen and managed. They are rewarded with financial incentives and threatened with job loss. By contrast, Theory Y assumes that people demand mental work like the fulfillment of excellence at work and receive financial rewards to boost their motivation, creativity and commitment. Theory Y:
