 (^) Pharyngeal tonsil

 (^) Tubal tonsil

 (^) Palatine tonsils

 (^) Lingual tonsils

PALATINE TONSIL

 (^) Surface-

 (^) A)Medial surface-

 (^) It is covered by stratified squamous epithelium.

 (^) It has 12 to 15 crypts

 (^) The largest crypts is called intratonsillar cleft.

PALATINE TONSIL

 (^) B)Lateral surface-

 (^) It is covered by the sheet of fascia which forms

the capsule of the tonsil.  (^) The capsule is an extend upto pharyngobasilar

fascia.  (^) It is attached with the pharynx and tongue by

the superior constrictor, styloglossus, palatoglossus and palatopharyngeus.  (^) The firm attachment keeps the tonsil in place

during swallowing

PALATINE TONSIL

 (^) Borders-

 (^) Anterior borer is related to the palatoglossus

arch with its muscle  (^) The posterior border is related to the

palatopharyngeal arch with its muscle

PALATINE TONSIL

 (^) Poles-

 (^) The upper pole is related with the soft palate

 (^) The lower pole is related with the tongue

PALATINE TONSIL

 (^) Artery supply:

 (^) Mainly it is supplied by tonsillar branch of the

facial artery  (^) Additional sources-

 (^) Ascending palatine branch of facial artery

 (^) Dorsal lingual branches of lingual artery

 (^) Ascending pharyngeal branches of external

carotid artery  (^) The greater palatine branch of maxillary artery

PALATINE TONSIL

 (^) Clinical anatomy:

 (^) Acute tonsilitis

 (^) Chronic tonsilitis

 (^) Tonsilllar abscess

 (^) Ca-tonsil
