What are your motivations for joining ESADE? I have a Catalan father and a Bulgarian mother. I have been born in Barcelona but spent the majority of my life studying at an International school in Bulgaria. I felt isolated from my home city and thought that it would be a good idea to return to study in Spain. I was nostalgic about my life in Barcelona, so I decided that I should study in Barcelona to relive the experience again. Overall, I'm interested in ESADE due to my roots and academic interests. When applying to ESADE, I understood the importance of a global profile which was a key aspect of the IB Diploma profile. I have a dual nationality since I’m a Bulgarian and Spanish citizen and also attend an Anglo-American school. I consider this to be valuable because I learned the benefits of being exposed to multiple cultures. This way, I have communicated with classmates from different countries, which has enriched my perspective. I have frequently been in disagreements with my classmates regarding society’s issues, but have understood that perspective is shaped by what a person has experienced. Thus, I have consistently attempted to be reasonable and open-minded academically, personally and socially. But, above all, I realized that diversity is what unites a society. Cultural diversity helps us value the characteristics of other unique people. So, when we interact with diverse people, we can trust, respect and understand different cultures. I also like the academic program at ESADE since it is innovative. In IB Business Management HL, I was able to use terminology and concepts on the case studies on tests to evaluate the financial aspects of a business. This is important for the stability of a business. I also apply concepts to real-life when evaluating the priorities of a business. For instance, I consider the type of business, objectives of the business and the importance of each stakeholder group. I also seek to be balanced in business scenarios. For instance, when analyzing the financial situation of a business, I attempt to consider quantitative and qualitative data. This might be valuable since, in the future, I want to become a manager, so I will have to be knowledgeable about how to evaluate the financial situation of a business. I also think that the Sant Cugat campus is very suitable for bachelor students. This is because the campus includes various athletic facilities that are essential to a student's lifestyle. If admitted, I'm willing to enroll in some of the activities offered at the school. I will sign up for football. It is the sport I practice for three years in High School. This will be important for sustaining a balanced daily life. I also understood that the school offers a variety of student-led organizations. Previously, I have been part of the Student Leadership Team and Student Council at my school. So, I look forward to becoming a member of one of the service organizations also. This will be important for sustaining a balanced daily life.
How do you evaluate your academic level so far and what do you consider will be your performance by the end of the academic year? I think my academic performance is solid in IB Business Management HL. Specifically, I was able to use the business terminology, theories, and concepts on tests, which is quite valuable since they are crucial in practical business scenarios. Hence, I was able to successfully apply them in case studies that examine how well you can relate the theoretical business knowledge to the real world. I learned about the business environment. This included the types of organization, organizational objectives, stakeholders, external factors and organizational planning tools. I was able to define the keywords, make balanced arguments by considering the pros and cons. During the third trimester of the first year, we started the unit on financial management. Throughout the unit, I learned about many business-related formulas and quantitative tools to evaluate the financial performance of a business. I was quite successful since I knew how to use the tools, and evaluate the results to determine whether the business is financially stable. I consider my academic performance to be adequate in IB Math SL. In year one, we studied algebra, functions and equations, circular functions and geometry, and differential calculus. I performed best on the algebra and circular functions and geometry unit. I was able to solve different types of equations successfully and use sin, cos, tan ratios to create the graph of those equations. This related to business since there are financial equations that require substitution such as the BEQ, the Unit contribution, and the margin of safety. I performed well on sequences and series by solving arithmetic and geometric series and sequences. In business, this is used in finance to calculate depreciation, appreciation, and interest. Apart from business, I'm taking another social science, IB Geography HL. We studied sample populations where we talked about demographics and migration, basically the movement of people around the world. I was quite successful at this unit since I was able to apply my strong analytical skills and terminology to each of the concepts. This permitted me to be able to perform well on case studies and real- life situations. In business, migration often causes an impact on consumer culture since clients are more diverse. This may lead to product and market development (diversification). The next unit was on global interactions, which was essay-based. The unit was related to globalization which referred to the movement of goods, services, capital, and people around the world. This was an intriguing unit for me since globalization is on the rise. I was able to successfully perform in this unit since my essays demonstrated strong analytical skills, a solid structure, and academic vocabulary. This is important in business since organizations should always consider
expressing my anger. This is crucial since it is related to understanding the dignity of each individual by appreciating their efforts which applies to real life. Overall, the idea of being a respectful team player may be applicable, not only in sports but also in academics. Any personal observations you feel should be considered for your application? I consider that a global mindset is valuable in life. This is why my friend and I are currently planning a trash cleaning initiative. We are organizing a trash clean up in one of Sofia’s parks. Our objective is to decrease non-biodegradable pollution in Sofia in recreational areas such as parks and areas in the city center. We are organizing a group of people who are willing to cooperate with us. We will lead this initiative for a minimum of two times. Our project is guided by global engagement and ethical behavior. In today’s world, it is crucial to address this problem since it harms the environment. For instance, plastic is non-biodegradable, so it releases toxic substances into the soil. Additionally, when burned, plastic releases CO emissions which contribute to global warming. My friend and I will supply the gloves and trash bags for the event. We also plan the route. After we graduate, we plan to find appropriate people who will continue our project for it to be ongoing. Overall, our project shows that everyone should “act locally” and “think globally.” I have experience in business decision-making. For my business internal assessment, I worked on an investigation, “Should Dar Buy a Storage?” Even though this might be a lower-scale business decision, I gained many skills. For instance, I was able to gather credible data from some of the organization’s stakeholders. Then I analyzed how the evidence supported my claims. This is useful since there are many theoretical and practical scenarios. This for a future managerial decision and make their decision based on their evidence. Thus, I think that I'm now able to analyze a business decision and reach a conclusion based on evidence. This is crucial when the managers of a business have to consider the type of organization, the purpose of the organization, and stakeholder mapping when deciding on what decision they will take. I’m also interested in current events. I read online newspapers daily. Thus, I'm informed about how certain events can change the business environment. This is what I learned when conducting a STEEPLE analysis in class. Social, technological, environmental, economic, political, and ethical aspects guide the decision-making of an organization. This may impact the strategic objectives, mission and vision statement of a business that is essential to business operations. I think that general knowledge is quite important in an economically-globalized world. Therefore, I consider that to be a successful business student it is necessary to be informed
about the news and how this might have an impact on an organization.
