Unit 1 Assignment: Competitive Business Factors 1
Amazon.com Inc
MT140 Intro to Management
Synopsis: Amazon Changes Everything
Amazon was just a bookstore at one point, and then became a massive place to buy any
product needed from clothing to groceries from your local store. Not only did they become a
leader in electronic shopping, but they also created their own brand-named electronic devices
such as Kindle, Echo, Fire TV and Tablet, and many more. But how did Amazon go from just a
bookstore in 1994 to the biggest e-commerce shopping website in the world? Jefferey P Bezos
had this idea to do something crazy and use the ‘www’ to market out his books and started up an
ecommerce website called “Cadabra” which was later changed to Amazon. Believe it or not, his
parents were the ones that invested in his concept and he warned them that they would or may
not lose 70% of their investment. As we know today, it was the multi-million-dollar idea. So,
from the garage he started out in to the 840,000 employees he has all around the country in the
U.S (Bstrategy, 2020).

Amazon has the largest selection of e-commerce merchandise platform for every type of
consumer there is. Their brand image in the market consistently focuses on the competitive
environmental factors, however, has had some issues with the macroenvironment factors that we
see today. However, that does that avoid the fact that, they also have the best prices and value for
its customers and are at a constant all time high when it comes to their stocks and assets. Their
products sold on behalf of third-parties, account for 70% of Amazon’s total revenue (Hoover,

However, that does that avoid the fact that, they also have the best prices and value for its customers and are at a constant all time high when it comes to their stocks and assets. Their products sold on behalf of third-parties, account for 70% of Amazon’s total revenue (Hoover,

2020). Amazon became customer friendly, was personalized for all customers, and there is the easy return option within 30 days. “The sustainable competitive advantage lies in deliberately choosing different set of activities from your competitor to deliver a unique mix of value (Michael Porter)”. Amazon has about 50% of its largest market sales with Germany, the UK and Japan which are the top three international markets (Hoover,2020). Amazon has a political stability in these developed country and accounts for a lot of their assets. However, when it comes to governmental support for the ecommerce it has been given substantial negative publicity for Amazon which is a threat to the company. The way President Trump had tweeted Bezos’s tax avoidance was a controversy for the company. Nevertheless, another macroenvironment factor that boosted Amazon was its increasing governmental efforts on cyber-security. Their strategy however, to ‘go global and act local strategy’ has been the biggest beneficial factor in developing not only the domestic but the international e-commerce rivals. They stand by understanding the countries culture and acting upon it in order to successfully achieve reeling in the consumers. Amazon has made great technology advancements including, as of November 21st, 2020, its acquisition in the self-driving technology that was created by the self-driving startup “Zoox Inc” for a whopping $1 billion. The autonomous technology is going to be implemented with Amazon in order to ensure and improve delivery services and hopefully canceling third-party delivery services (SoFi,2020). Not only is Amazon doing this but they are about to experiment with the idea of Amazon Pharmacy which will really be a huge test on the public side of things for Prime members and for Amazon and will in fact be the biggest factor that makes or break this

hope to see some of the criticism in public diminish. I feel that boosting their security would be a tremendous change and would get rid of the liability for counterfeit sales. We also see that Amazon is not a physical store yet. How amazing would it be to have an Amazon store locally in your community? That would be nothing but greatness, however, I think given Bezos’s mindset and how he thinks it is best to fix everything with Amazon.com first before doing anything that would compromise his chances and put him at a greater risk for liability. However, if his competitors can do it, why not Amazon. We look at this companies’ competitors and see Walmart being the top competitor rivaling against Amazon. Now when it comes to price/earnings ratio Amazon has Walmart beat by 110.48%. When it comes to net income revenue Amazon also wins by 20%, but the percentage of net income and EPS Growth goes to Walmart in a matter of a 12 month growth but when we look at the 36-month course Amazon beats them by all 3 of their revenue, net income and EPS growth variables (Hoover,2020). It is hard to be against Amazon for its large merchandise selection that attracts online consumers and being that people are afraid to go into stores due to this pandemic it is a stronger win for Amazon all around. AMZN, as of September 2020 has a market cap of $1.65 Trillion, 280.52 Billion in annual revenue, and 11.59 Billion in profit/net income. Whoever said going into the world wide web with $70,000 was a bad idea, well you can tell that to Jeff Bezos and his 2000% growth over the 26 years of business with Amazon. Citations:
