Abstrak
Peneliti menganalisis gaya penulisan dalam novel The Notebook (1996) menggunakan studi stilistika, berdasarkan teori dari (McArthur, 1992). Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dan bertujuan untuk menganalisis apa saja jenis gaya bahasa yang digunakan oleh Nicholas Sparks dalam novel ini, menunjukkan makna bahasa yang menggunakan gaya bahasa, dan untuk mengetahui fungsi masing-masing unsur gaya. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif analisis. Sumber utama data dari penelitian ini adalah novel The Notebook (1996) oleh Nicholas Sparks, sedangkan formal objek data adalah studi stilistika. Untuk mengembangkan penelitian ini, berbagai sumber seperti jurnal, tesis, dan artikel dari internet sangat dibutuhkan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan-temuan jenis gaya (diksi, idiom, pengulangan, sajak, bahasa kiasan, citra, dan simbolisme), penguraian makna dari setiap bahasa (pemilihan kata menggunakan bahasa inggris kuno, ekspresi tersirat melalui idiom, penekanan suatu ekspresi melalui pengulangan kata), dan fungsi masing-masing elemen gaya bahasa sebagai petunjuk bagaimana menggunakan kata yang baik dan menyampaikan ekspresi secara sopan. The research was aimed at analysing the writing style in The Notebook novel (1996). This research belonged to qualitative. The researcher used descriptive qualitative analysis as a method. The main data source of this research is The Notebook novel (1996) by Nicholas Sparks, while the formal object is a stylistic study. To develop this research, some sources from journals, thesis, and articles from the internet are very needed. This research result shows that firstly the kinds of stylistics used in this novel cover diction, idiom, repetition, rhyme, figurative language, imagery, and symbolism. Secondly the meaning of the language is varied based on the context such as the word choice uses old english language, the implied expression through idiom, emphasizing the expression by repetition. Thirdly they function as the direction of how to use the finer words, and politely express the feeling.

1. INTRODUCTION Language style represents the feeling or description which wants to be expressed by the authors to strengthen the written imagination. There are so many writings in which each author has their writing style, such as poetic writing, hyperbole writing, satire writing, etc. The authors of the novel express their feeling, imagination, and thought/ideas in
Notebook novel implements certain the plot that constructed the romance formula such as, the first between Noah and Allie, they love each other, fight for obstacles and face it, and they happily ever after. Character is the key to making the novel classify into romance genre because it presents the characteristics of romance formula through Noah and Allie character. In the next previous study, that written by Harisa Mandasari, Feby Meuthia Yusuf, Raflis. Entitled The Struggle Of Love As Reflected In Nicholas Spark’s The Notebook, uses a structural approach. In this study the authors found: (1) Noah left Allie because Allie's parents did not approve of their love story, and Noah decided to go to war. Allie's parents did not approve of their relationship because Noah was born from a poor family. And Allie's parents set her up with another man. (2) Noah's love affair occurs when Noah reunites with Allie and new problems arise when Allie is already fiancee with another man. Problems can be seen when the relationship is contrary to the parent because of the difference in status. However, Allie kept making sense to Noah about her parents' decisions. (3) when Noah returns with Allie after Allie realizes that she loves Noah over Lon and after Allie's parents see her daughter's love for Noah they finally agree on the relationship.
2. METHOD The researcher in this study uses qualitative research methods. The object of this research is The Notebook novel. The author of this novel is Nicholas Sparks. The first edition of The Notebook novel was published in 1996, in New York, by Warner Books. While the data collected is in the form of words, sentences, conversation. The primary data source from this study is The Notebook novel written by Nicholas Sparks (1996). The secondary data source form this study is books related to this study, internet, journal, research papers. To get the information, first, the writer reads and understands a theory about the stylistics, the things that include in stylistics, and the kind of stylistics. Second, the writer reads a book of The Notebook Novel. While the writer reads, the writer also pays attention to the words that possible using writing style. After that, the writer identifies the writing style. The process of analyzing data in this research comprises several steps: (1) The researcher starts the first step by reading The Notebook novel by Nicholas Sparks carefully and repeatedly to understand the contents which are
in the novel. (2) After the researcher finished the reading activity, the researcher finds and collects the data in which sentences contain the elements of stylistics. Then, those data will be classified as their type into tabulation. (3) The researcher describes the findings of the data into a descriptive form. (4) The researcher explains the meaning in the finding of stylistic in The Notebook novel and elaborates the function of each stylistic elements. (5) The researcher makes a conclusion of the results. The writer uses a triangulation of this research. Literary, the researcher uses triangulation to collect and analyze the data. It is an approach that involves multi-mode, also called a combination method. Norman K. Denkin, in his works, defines that triangulation is a method used to examine interconnected phenomena from different perspectives. Triangulation includes four things; (1) method triangulation, (2) interresearch triangulation, (3) triangulation of data source, (4) theory of triangulation.
3. FINDING AND DISCUSSION 3.1 Finding Archaism is an old English language that rarely used today. The findings of archism based on this novel such as in the poem of Walt Whitman entitled Leaves of Grass which contains pronoun “thee, thy, and thou”. The next finding of archaism is in the poem found in chapter Winter For Two which use word “ne’er” The findings of formal diction is found in chapter Reunion from the narration which author chose and just for the fleeting moment as the connection to the next sentence. The second finding is the paddle moved rhythmically causing baffles in the chapter Moving Water. There are the idioms that the researcher found in this novel. They are when the lump in his throat subsided, a knot twisted in my stomach , and to and fro. The epizeuxis found in the chapter Winter for Two from this book. It contains the repetition of statement I’m sorry... three times that written sequently. There are so many findings of personification. The first is from chapter Ghost which liken water washing away both dirt and fatigue. (p.26). The second finding is from the same chapter that coastal clouds began to roll across the evening sky. (p.34). The next finding is from the chapter Reunion which illustrate Moth kissing the porch light (p.147). Move on to the next chapter, Moving Water, the researcher finds
The researcher analyzes the language style of The Notebook novel uses stylistics study to know the kinds of stylistics used by Nicholas Sparks, the meanings of the language, and the functions of stylistics elements based on this novel. The researcher concludes the findings of this research in this part. First, almost all of the stylistic elements based on the researcher had mentioned before are found in this novel. Nicholas Sparks poured his ideas into written form in different ways. There are archaic diction, formal diction, this book has idioms, three kinds of repetition (epizeuxis, anaphora, epistrophe), rhyme, figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, analogy), imagery and symbolism. The meanings are varied based on the context of the narrations and dialogues. Such as there are the other names of the pronoun “you” which popular in the historical era, the implied expression of the character in this book through idiom, the accentuation of the expression by repeating some words, etc. The functions are elaborate according to the definition of each element. The main function is to amuse the reader to enter the author’s world. While another function is to give the knowledge of how to conversing in the past, how to express the feeling in a polite way.
