Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive,
multisystem disease characterized by altered
transport of sodium and chloride ions in and
out of epithelial cells. This defect primarily
affects the lungs, GI tract (pancreas and
biliary tract), and reproductive tract.

1. chest physiotherapy to lossen secretions
and
1. add humified O2 to increase 1. increase sodium intake in food to
replenish sodium that is lost
2. Cough & deep breathe 2. decrease temperature in room to prevent
diaphoresis and sodium loss.
2.add pancreatic enzymes to each meals to
help with nutritional status and absorption
of fat soluble vitamins
3. clear drainage by postural tripoding
3. Position patient accordingly to mobilize
secretions. If secretions are in the upper lobes,
supine positioning is optimal. If in the middle or
lower lobes, upright is best. If in the right or left
lungs, the patient should lay on that side.
3. Offer meal with normal diet with
additional energy and unrestricted fat intake
is recommended

  • Meconium ileus in newborn (20%)
  • Abdominal Distention
  • Vomiting
