TERM 1
hypernatremia
DEFINITION 1
increased sodium intake in diet or through intravenous fluid,
dehydration or water depravation symptoms:intense thirst,
hypertension(high blood pressure), edema, agitation and
convulsions
TERM 2
chloride Ion (cl-)
DEFINITION 2
95-105 mEq/L regulates osmosis forms hydrocloric acid (HCL)
in stomach indirectly controlled by aldosterone
TERM 3
hypochloremia
DEFINITION 3
caused by excessive vomitting, over hydration, aldosterone
defienciency, congestive heart failure, taking certain
diuretics such as lasix symptoms:muscle spasms and tetani,
metabolic alkalosis, shallow respirations, and hypotension
not having a lot of chloride ion in blood
TERM 4
hyperchloremia
DEFINITION 4
elevated level of chloride ion in the blood caused by
dehydration or excessive chloride intake, sever renal failure,
hyperaldosteronism, certain types of acidoses(conditions that
lower ph of body) and some drugs cause this symptoms:
lethargy, weakness, metabolic acidoses (lowers ph of body)
and rapid, deep breathing
TERM 5
Potassium
DEFINITION 5
(k+) 3.5-5.0 MeQ/L most abundant positive ion in the
intracellular fluid involved in maintaining fluid volume,
impulse conduction, muscle contraction and regulation of pH
regulated by aldosterone
