Course Description:
This is a full-semester introductory computer course. No experience with computers is assumed. The objectives of this
offering are to:
Provide a concise, yet comprehensive introduction to computers
Present the most-up-to-date technology in an ever changing discipline
Give students an understanding of why computers are essential components in business and society
Teach the fundamentals of computers and computer nomenclature, particularly with respect to personal computer
hardware and software, the Web, and enterprise computing
Prerequisites: None are required for this course.

This is an online course, all instruction and interaction will occur through Black Board: bbweb.towson.edu

Teaching Methods:
1. Lectures: Since this is an online course, you are required to go through the power point slides (posted on Black
Board) on your own. Please feel free to post any questions you might have in the appropriate discussion board
thread relating to that chapter (or in the Cyber Café thread).
2. Discussion board threads: Instead of face to face interaction, you will interact with your class mates and instructor
through discussion board threads. You are thereby required to login frequently to Black Board and post responses to
the discussion thread questions.

  1. Quizzes: About 8 quizzes will be given out online, covering different topics from the text book. Make sure to read the lecture notes and text book, before starting a quiz on Black Board.
  2. Exams: Two online exams will be given, a midterm and final. The midterm will cover chapters 1 through 6, while the final will cover chapters 7 through 12 (i.e. not comprehensive in nature). See class schedule below for more information. Grading: All grades will be posted on blackboard, below in the breakdown of grades: Course Policies: Missed Quizzes and\or Exams: No makeup quizzes and\or exams will be given out, unless you have a documented illness (i.e. you have a doctor’s note). So do make sure to keep track of what quiz\exam you have to take and the due dates for each. Discussion threads: Please pay attention to the due dates for each discussion board thread, no late submissions will be accepted. Academic Dishonesty: Plagiarism and cheating are serious offenses and may be punished by failure on exam, paper or project; failure in course; and or expulsion from the University. For more information refer to the "Academic Dishonesty" policy in the University Undergraduate Catalog. For this class, it is permissible to assist classmates in general discussions of computing techniques. General advice and interaction are encouraged. Each person, however, must develop his or her own solutions to the assigned projects, assignments, and tasks. In other words, students may not "work together" on graded assignments. Need for Assistance: If you have any condition, such as a physical or learning disability, which will make it difficult for you to carry out the work as I have outlined it, or which will require academic accommodations, please notify me as soon as possible. Incomplete Policy: Students will not be given an incomplete grade in the course without sound reason and documented evidence as described in the university policies\catalog. In any case, for a student to receive an incomplete, he or she must be passing and must have completed a significant portion of the course.
