I. COMPRENSIÓN AUDITIVA
A. Deletrear. For each item, you will hear a word spelled out loud. Focus on the letters
in the word, not on its meaning. Write one letter per blank space to reveal the word. (¼
point per letter; 11 points total)
B. Los números de teléfono. For each item, you will hear a telephone number stated in
Spanish, for example: “tres, setenta y ocho, cuarenta y dos, veintidós”. Circle the
telephone number in each column that you hear stated by your instructor. (1 point each;
4 points total)
C. Párrafo de Pedro Ramírez. Your instructor will read a brief passage about a student
twice. Listen carefully to the passage and indicate whether each of the following
statements is true (“cierto”) or false (“falso”). (1 point each; 6 points total)
II. VOCABULARIO
A. Nombrar imágenes. For each of the following images, choose the most appropriate
word from the list below and write its corresponding letter in the blank space provided.
(1 point each; 9 points total)
B. Escoger. Circle the expression that best completes each phrase. (1 point each; 10
points total)
C. Identificar. First, choose two of the three categories listed below and write the
names of those categories in the left-hand column. Then, for each category, using the
vocabulary from Chapters 1 & 2 of the textbook, identify five different items or ideas that
fall within the category and write these in the right-hand column. Include the correct
definite article for each item if indicated as required. (3 points for appropriate word
choice, minus 1 point for incorrect definite article, minus ½ point per spelling error,
minus ½ point per written accent error= 3 points per item; 30 points total)

Choose one (1) of the following two topics and write a coherent, well-organized composition in Spanish that includes: 1) a brief title, 2) an introductory statement, 3) a well-developed, well-organized body, and 4) a concluding statement. Your composition should contain approximately 75-100 varied words in Spanish. Write your composition on the lines provided on the following page. (NOTE: Not all of the lines need to be filled; follow the word count above for length.) (Length= 3 points, Content & Development= 5 points, Organization= 5 points, Vocabulary= 5 points, Grammar= 5 points; TOTAL= 23 points) PART 2 (Day 2) (= 115 points) IV. GRAMÁTICA A.
