Searching and Remembering

My Object: Sky

Choosing this object was complex and confusing, as the sky is vast enough to be considered an object, but I decided on it as it felt like my object. I did a small research, and according to it, the sky is a natural object (a complex one). So, I decided to stick to the sky as my object.

Stars are visible if zoomed in.

Location: Backyard of my apartment.

Quantitative analysis: General

The sky color is lighter during the day and darker at night because of luminous bodies like the sun, moon, and stars.

The sky is very vast and seems to be endless

The sky makes it visible to see stars when it's dark.

Sometimes, the sky lets us know the sun and moon with fewer clouds.

The sky is part of the troposphere.

Main beautiful natural phenomena appear in the sky (ex, northern lights, rainbow)

Qualitative analysis: My object was the sky.

It was so plain yet complicated in a beautiful way. It was painted in light and darker shades of blue in the evening. There was serenity and a source of peace, mystery, and beauty while viewing it.

Creation :

Let out the first words and phrases that come to mind - realistically abstract.

I wanted my collage to be abstract and realistic. My object is realistic, while my symbolizing elements (my journey in finding my object, my emotions, thoughts, and surroundings) are abstract.

The explanation is in the video attached below.

The bottom to the top shows the shift within me as I spent time with my object.

Reflection :

● What drew you to your object?

I would say yes, as the sky seemed more beautiful and visible once I started paying attention to it. ● Was your object familiar, like an old friend? Yes, I usually like stargazing and always look at the sky when I walk at night. So I felt a connection; I felt happiness when choosing it because I chose an old friend, someone I know well. ● Was your object part of an overall pattern that you recognized or intuited? Yes and no; I aimed at trees, rocks, and soil as I read natural objects, but it didn't seem creative or connective. But after I did some research about natural objects, I aimed at the moon or the clouds, so they were part of the sky, and after seeing the stars, I decided the sky was my object.

● Did your object resonate with an inner mood? For example, a smooth rock mirroring the stillness of your mood or, conversely, your desire for stillness? Yes, it's more like it shifted my mood (systems thinking). I was upset, not so myself, and a little playful, but once I went out, my mood shifted to calmness according to the calm sky. And the darker sky made me realize that in the darkest times, there would be light to lead us, which were the stars. I felt a connection, a peaceful happiness, like the shining stars in the dark, calm sky. The weather was cold and windy; it added to the beautiful mystery. ● Did you notice any difference in attention/affection toward your object when analyzing it objectively vs. subjectively? When analyzing the sky with affection/attention, I experienced objective and subjective change. I could view many tiny stars, which weren't usually visible, which made me happier. I can view the clouds and the colors of the sky (light-dark). I could view three stars forming a triangle shape, which caused excitement in me. The more I recognized the elements in the sky, the more time I spent with it and the more peace and connection I felt. It was almost like the sky showed me its beautiful secrets when I spent more time with it. ● Entertain the notion that your object has a presence. (It is not necessary to believe this.) Write down anything you notice: changes in your body, thoughts, et cetera. I felt calm; my thoughts were about my mistakes and that I had to change them. I felt thankful and happy. I felt a connection to the sky and its elements. I

also felt fresh, as the wind was blowing, it was quiet, and spending time with the sky cleared my mind. ● Did you have any response to the words “natural” or “object?” Yes, I never considered something related to nature as an object. I always considered them to be just natural. I only thought human-made things were objects. I was confused about the concept, but after some research, it was clarified. However, after the activity, I learned new ideas and personal connections.

Personal reflection: This activity made me understand the concept of systems thinking as I experienced it. But I disagree with the idea of Animism , as it doesn't align with my religion. I agree with the Exogenous perception , as I felt different, and how I viewed my object (the sky) changed over time.

Storytelling :

Video with an explanation of my collage :

My connection with the stars (star gazing) led to a connection with the sky - universally connected.

The stars drew me more to the sky, and the visibility of the stars in the sky represents the sky, revealing its beauty and secrets to me as I look at it with affection.

I wanted to add the moon to the collage as a part of my journey to finding My object; I wouldn't have focused on the sky if I hadn't paid attention to the moon on my first walk and the stars on my second walk, which drew me to My object.
