  1. “New Economic Geography represents a case of mistaken identity: it is not new and it is certainly not Geography.” Discuss.
  2. What can we say from economic theory about the impact of migration on a host economy? Consider the case of Ireland, what has been the impact on migrants and the domestic economy of immigration in the decade to 2007?
  3. What do we mean by a Food Deserts? How do we quantify them? What are the implications? What are the driving factors? Suggest solutions.
  4. Why do firms cluster? Identify market imperfections that influence clustering and indicate how regional policy can help mitigate imbalances.
  5. Why and how does the state intervene in transport? Give examples and justification from theory and practice.
  6. In the context of planning for economic development, please carry out a SWOT analysis on a sub-national spatial entity with which you are familiar; this can be a region, a town/city or local community.
  7. Does the income tax system favour owner-occupied housing or rental housing?
  8. What do we mean by spatial microsimulation modelling? Discuss options in relation to the construction. How can they be used by policy makers for analysis? Critque.
