Never leave clients alone or minimize their feelings while dealing with panic attack. Mild to Moderate — Ego defense mechanisms are used (survival motivations) can be adaptive Severe — can be debilitating, unable to meet ADLS, Neuroses, aware that they are experiencing distress and their behaviors are maladaptive, unaware of any possible psychological causes of the distress, feel helpless to change their situation, experience no loss of contact with reality Panic- can be debilitating , unable to meet ADLS, Psychosis, exhibit minimal distress tone is flat, bland or inappropriate, behavior is maladaptive, unaware of any psychological problems ,exhibit flight from reality *Know the difference between mild and panic Describe the stages of grief - Do not always happen in order Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance Identify the nurse’s role (and legal obligation) when administering a chemical restraint with psychotropic medications Ethical dilemmas arise when there are 2 unequally unfavorable alternatives The right to treat - All patients The right to refuse treatment/medications- Unless in need of emergency intervention: @ danger to self or others (IM B-52 cocktail is Haldol, Benadryl, Ativan) or unless the client is med— paneled The right to least restrictive treatment- Treatment settings, interventions etc, USED AS A LAST RESORT!
