Cognitive Dissonance: In the space below explain cognitive dissonance and give an example of what cognitive dissonance looks like. Stanford Prison Experiment (August 1971): In the space below 1) explain the se-up of the Stanford Prison Experiment. Be sure to include how people were recruited and how they made their roles as realistic as possible. 2) Why did they have to discontinue the experiment? 3) Explain how the results of the experiment favor “situational attribution” of behavior rather than “dispositional attribution.” Leon Festinger (1919 – 1989) was an American social psychologist who studied at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1941. He is best known for his cognitive dissonance and social comparison theory. He was recently recognized as the fifth most influential psychologist of the 20th century.
