i. Greater access to the garbage disposing points (public
dustbin)
ii. Efficient in terms of time and fuel cost.
iii. Provide data collection facility on how much a city
generates garbage and accordingly plan disposing
process.
iv. Population growth and impact overall urban
waste generation.

garbage.
The smart dustbin consist of following components :-
Arduino UNO :
Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on
easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are
able to read inputs and turn it into an output.
HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor :
It is mainly used to determine the distance from the
target object.
Arduino WIFI Shield 101 :
The Arduino Wi-Fi Shield connects our Arduino to the
internet wirelessly.
A small dustbin with hinged lid :-
Used for putting garbage in.
This proposed system
has been divided into
three layers:
Dustbin Layer
Server layer
Client layer
Fig.5- System Architecture.
This layer consists of internet and Wi-Fi enabled dustbins.
Every dustbin contains a sensor which senses the fill up status of
dustbin and sends the data to the server. It also sends it current GPS
location to the server at regular intervals
Server collects the fill up status and location of dustbins. It
processes the clients query and it respond with nearest dustbin location
and with direction to access dustbin
i. This system provides greater accessibility to the dustbin.
ii. In this system if dustbin is relocated to another location it
will automatically registered with the server with the
new GPS location.
iii. It will save fuel and time using appropriate route
planning. Here
we can use traveling salesman problem for route
planning.
i. The process is not always cost-effective
ii. The resultant process has a short life
iii. Garbage segregation is very difficult
iv. The sites are often dangerous
i. The system help to monitoring of domestic wastage
clearance
at proper time to avoid damage to the public health. A web
server is
also been set up through which the authorities also get
information
about the bins in their area. It uses sensors for sensing
information
of Bins and sending to workstation, which is situated at
municipal
office for finding shortest path.
