Lost Person Behavior (LPB) data provides search planners with general indications of the following with the exception of
How quickly they will be located by trained searchers
Clues and evidence should be
reported and processed following AHJ SOGs and properly documented and secured in a food grade plastic storage bag
Smelling smoke from a campfire when looking for a pair of missing hikers or finding a small toy during a search for a child are what type of clues?
Physical
Who is responsible for establishing a "safety first" mindset during search operations?
The Safety Officer
The National SAR Committee (NSARC) is responsible for coordinating and improving federal involvment in civil search and rescue. Its member agencies include the following agences:
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration
The Department of Defence
The Department of Interior
Federal Communications Commission
The Department of Commerce
The LPQ, maps, statistical data, weather reports, theoretical and search data are considered
Planning Data
Search planners use the subject behavioral profile for a number of reasons:
Determining search strategy
defining the search area
estimating resource needs
mapping the search area
briefing search teams
A Search Urgency Form
justifies the initial actions such as performing additional investigation or calling out search resources
POD Estimates, Map or Trail updates that might be needed, hazard areas not included in the safety briefing, thoughts and impressions from the team members
A complete debriefing of a team when they return from a task is critical to understanding how how well they were able to search their area. A good debriefing should include all of the following.
The incident commander
the general briefing is critical to creating a common operational picture of the incident. This briefing is usually conducted by
drive changes in training, equipment, material
A thorough critique or After Action Review is a critical component of all aspects of emergency response. A critique may help managers
In Service
Resources at an incident will be one of the following
Last Known Point (LKP)
is defined as the last place the subject is verifiably known to have been.
Point Last Seen (PLS)
the location at which someone can confirm that the subject was visually identified.
Initial Planning Point (IPP)
is considered the starting point at which initial assessment and decisions can be ascertained.

On arrival the searcher should sign in using the ICS-_____ form.
Air Scent Canines
detect the scent of "human rafts" (dead human skin cells) as they float through the air. These dogs generally do not discriminate from one scent generator to another. These dogs are usually worked off lead. Air scent dogs are extremely useful in
covering large areas, especially if no one has been in those areas.
Tracking Canines
are trained to follow a specific scent matching that of the scent generator, such as from an article of clothing, bed sheets or pillowcases, etc. These canines work on lead, and follow very closely on the trail of where the subject traveled, regardless of wind.
Police Canines
are sometimes known as "tracking" and "sniff and bite" dogs. These dogs will track criminal suspect footsteps based on crushed vegetation or the suspect's adrenaline scent. These dogs are also trained to protect their handler from any aggressive action by attacking and biting the aggressor. These dogs work both on and off leash. Because of their trained aggressive behavior they may not be always suitable for missing person searches, especially in the urban environment.

Planning and Strategy
The ______ phase is ongoing and dynamic as new situational information is received and interpreted.
Searcher Data
Searchers require detailed subject information so that they can locate all the potential clues left behind by a subject. This information is classified as
Hasty Search Team
utilize fast, non-thorough search tactics in areas most likely to produce clues or the subject themselves.
Grid or Thorough Search Teams
use a more systematic approach to searching. These teams
search in a well-defined, usually small segment.
Loose or Open Spaced Search Team
have skilled searchers that do not have to stay within eyesight of each other. The larger distance between searchers allows for the use of fewer searchers over a large area.
Visual Trackers
search for clues left by the subject. They are very efficient and can provide a direction of travel as well as determine areas of high probability.
Check in.

State search and rescue authorities
responsibilities vary from state to state. As a search and rescue responder you should understand and know if your state has a State SAR Coordinator, a State SAR Plan, and/or legislation regarding search and rescue
