1. Discuss the role of methylation in epigenetics. 2. Discuss the natural history of cancer with emphasis on the early events in the neoplastic process. Section B 3. Excision repair of DNA plays a critical role in maintaining genome stability in human cells. Discuss with reference to one specific DNA repair pathway. 4. Answer BOTH parts of this question: a) For yeast, describe how gene knockouts are created and tested to help understand gene function. (70% of marks) b) Briefly describe one example of a yeast genome-wide analysis that was discussed in class and summarize a key finding from that analysis. (30% of marks) 5. Discuss the molecular composition, function and regulation of the DISC complex, with reference to apoptotic cell death.
