Your work will be divided into four units. Each unit will incorporate assignments in four areas: Sight singing Rhythmic reading Melodic dictation Harmonic dictation Sight Singing & Rhythmic Reading Sight singing rhythmic reading exercises will be taken from Music for Sight Singing by Benjamin, Horvit, & Nelson. Students not using the 4th^ edition should consult me for correct exercise numbers and copies of any exercises not found in other editions. Melodic & Harmonic Dictation Melodic and harmonic dictation assignments will primarily be taken from A New Approach to Ear Training by Kraft. Each unit will include two lessons from the Kraft text; follow instructions in the text to determine whether you should also work on the double-lettered lessons. You should also work on the “short drills” as the text directs. Also, keep in mind that the CASPAR CD gives supplemental drill that is sequenced precisely with the main CDs for this text. Because of the greater flexibility of CASPAR, I would recommend that you attempt the CASPAR lessons before attempting the lessons in the four-CD set. . The homework portion of your grade will be based on your weekly work in each of the four areas listed above. Document your work as follows. Melodic/Harmonic dictation—Turn in printouts of your progress from the CASPAR CD for each practice session. You should also turn in score sheets from each single and/or double- lettered lesson from the four-CD set. Sight singing & rhythmic reading—Turn in a summary of each assignment practiced. Include what you have practiced and how much time you spent on each item each week. You may use loose-leaf paper for these reports. All reports are due each by the quiz date for each unit.
