  1. Define the term “Biotechnology”, illustrating your definition using one historical and one contemporary example.
  2. Describe the process of RNA synthesis, using diagrams to illustrate your answer.
  3. Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic protein expression systems in terms of their advantages and disadvantages.
  4. Describe the technique of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and discuss applications of PCR in biotechnology.

Subsection 2

  1. Give an example of a microbial reporter gene and explain its biotechnological use.
  2. Describe the two main types of forensic DNA testing and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each technique.
  3. Give examples of viruses that can be used as delivery vectors in gene therapy and discuss the properties that make a virus as good vector.
