2. Write a definition of psychophysiology, identifying your sources.
3. Identify an interest area for you and your partner(s). Describe what interests you about
this topic.
4. Conduct a literature search using the following method:
Open Google>psychophysiology+interest that you have identified
In one or two paragraphs, briefly summarize one of the articles you found. Be sure to
include the author, title, and source of the article. The paper should be typed, double
spaced, font 12, with sources cited.
5. Create a testable hypothesis related to the article you have found. By this I mean, think
about how you could conduct an experiment using the information you have found.
How could you use an ECG, EMG, or EOG to follow through with your experiment?
6. Present this information to the class.
Experiment Procedure
1. Work with your group of two or three.
2. Review your hypothesis. The variables for this exercise are limited to what we have
to work with in this classroom situation.
3. Identify the independent variables that your team will manipulate
4. Choose group member roles:
a. Experimental subject: the person who is tested
b. Biopac operator/Data marker manager: starts and stops the Biopac program
and makes sure the subject’s name is entered and enters data markers while
the Biopac program is running.
c. Observer, note taker: Keeps track in writing of all observations of the
subject, cues the operator when a marker is to be applied and its
significance.
5. Apply electrodes to the experimental subject. (It is not necessary to wear rubber
gloves if you are applying electrodes to yourself. It is important to scrub the areas
where the electrodes will be fastened thoroughly with the acetone alcohol prep
pad).
