PHYS 2212 Principles of Physics II Spring 2009
Instructor: Dr. Donovan Domingue
Website : physics.gcsu.edu/~domingue
Office: Herty Rm 314
Office Phone : 445-3512
Email: donovan.domingue@gcsu.edu
Office hours: 10-11 MW, 1-2 M, 9:30-11 T,Th
Class time: 8-9:15 TTh
Textbook: Physics Vol.2- 5th Ed. Resnick, Halliday & Krane
Teaching Tools Homework Subscription: https://ttt.ph.utexas.edu/instructions.htm
Other Suggested Materials:
TEXAS INSTURMENTS calculators: TI-82, TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-85, or TI-86.
The Cartoon Guide to Physics – Gonick & Huffman
Major Course Objective: To identify, demonstrate if possible, and apply many basics laws and
equations of physics related to the topics of electrostatics, magnetostatics, electricity and
magnetism, geometric and wave optics, special relativity, and quantum physics
Tests:
The scheduled tests will cover only the material reviewed in class since the last test. However, do
remember that new ideas are often built on the knowledge gained earlier in the semester.
1. Each student may bring an 8.5" 11"-sheet of handwritten notes to each test with writing only on the
one side of the sheet. This sheet can not be a photocopy or printout. Other notes, or extra sheets of
paper are prohibited during the tests or final. Each student must bring his/her own calculator to each
test and the final.
Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all classes, although attendance does not directly count towards the final
grade.
Make-up policy:
Any absence from any test or final that is not excused by the professor will result in a score of zero. For
the student to make-up the test grade(s) for the excused absence(s), the professor must receive a hand-
delivered letter by at least the third class meeting after (each of) the absence(s) requesting that his/her
final be modified to incorporate the make-up test(s). The modified final is scheduled during the same time
as the regular final, would be worth the cumulative point value of the missed test(s) and the regular final,
and may differ in format, length, difficulty, and emphasis from the original test(s) and the regular final.
Late Homework policy:
I assign weekly homework. The homework is submitted via a homework website. Any late homework
will be graded as a 0 because solutions are posted after the due time. Without these assignments, your
grade will suffer. Completing the assignments is your quickest way to a good grade.
