Primarily, Dr. Bailey talked about a lot of things during her talk, but one thing that resonated with me the most was the time when she said she was at the airport after her surgery. I think when her vocal cords were damaged, she was unable to speak. She said “I was pushed to the side in the airport helpless and unable to help myself, I tried asking for help but instead people just walked past me and acted like I was invisible. Eventually one little girl got close enough to hear my Wisper for help.” This stuck with me because it goes to show how people could see someone in need of help and just turn their eyes and keep it pushing, it kind of relates to that story out of chapter one of the college success book when the student said, “I was surrounded by people, yet I felt so alone”.

She said “I was pushed to the side in the airport helpless and unable to help myself, I tried asking for help but instead people just walked past me and acted like I was invisible. You never know the full story of someone’s life or what they are going through so if someone ever needs help or looks like they need help it does not hurt to ask if they are okay or need a helping hand. Another point that doctor bailey talked about that stood out to me is how she struggled to get above an 800 on her SAT scores and this determined for her whether she would get into UCONN. This stood out to me because personally I’ve always felt like SAT scores determining whether u got into a college was stupid because not everyone is a good test taker. Some people just get extra nervous before a test causing them to second guess themselves, and some people just put so much stress on themselves for the test that by the time they get to take it their mind is a blank slate. School using SAT’s scores to determine on whether you are a suitable candidate for their school is wild crazy because half of the time the SAT’s scores do not even be accurate compared to the level of intelligence someone has.
