Instructions:
Describe one of the specific mental disorders listed below in detail. Use the your book and at
least 3 research articles/studies to describe the disorder and to answer the following questions:
a. What treatments are suggested?
b. How does culture or social environments affect the symptoms and treatment for
the disorder?
c. How does society view each of these disorders? In other words, what are the
media portrayals of this particular disorder?
You will present a 10- to15-minute Microsoft PowerPoint group presentation over either option 1
or option 2, as described below. Students will pair up with other students. An outline of the
topic must be given to the instructor 1 week prior to the scheduled presentation. Presentations
should address all questions and issues contained in the topic description. Students will be
graded on their outline, research literature review, content, visual presentation, and organization
of the presentation.

Substance Use Disorders (substance dependence and abuse)
Schizophrenia (Paranoid type, Disorganized type, Catatonic type)
