Prefixes un and dis A prefix is a letter or group of letters added at the beginning of a root word that creates a new word with a different meaning. The mis- prefix gives these root words a negative meaning. ‘Mis-’ means wrong. The dis- prefix is usually added to verb root words to give a negative meaning. ‘Dis-’ means opposite or not. Task: Find the appropriate challenge for you. Draw out the table in your book and write the word with the prefix. There is then a challenge for you to add your own words and to write them in sentences. Put these root words in the correct columns. There might be more than one column they could fit into. You do not need to print this page.
