1. What is the focus of this lab session? The focus of this lab Session is to identify the
different animal tissues and cell types.
2. What is a Tissue? Tissue is a cellular organizational level between cells and a complete
organism. Multicellular organisms function more efficiently if cells become specialized
for specific functions.
3. Contrast and then describe the function of each of the types of tissues according to the
four groups: epithelium, muscle, nervous, connective. Epithelium protect us from the
outside world, it absorbs stomach and intestinal lin
4. Give two examples of where each major type of animal tissue may be found in the body:
epithelium, muscle, nervous, connective.
5. What is the difference in these levels of organization in the body: tissue, organ and
system? Tissue is made out of a group of similar cells. So muscle tissue is made out of
muscle cells together. An organ is made out of various tissues that work together to
perform a task. An organ system is a group of organs that work together to perform a
task for the body.
6. If a tissue changes appearance, what can you infer about the function of the changed
cells? They become larger and are less able to divide and multiply. Among other changes,
there is an increase in pigments and fatty substances inside the cell (lipids). Many cells
lose their ability to function, or they begin to function abnormally.
7. How can each of the tissue types be recognized from each other? What characteristics are
distinctive? How are the epithelium tissues and muscle tissues classified into specific
types?
8. From the directions in the study manual, name three types of abnormal tissues. How can
blood cells be used to identify mammals from other vertebrates and male and females?
