  1. Describe the natural sources, the production and the uses of Agars.
  2. Describe the uses of microalgae and the technologies involved in their exploitation
  3. Describe the applications and modes of exploitation of Porphyra species and explain the biological features that need to be taken into account when cultivating them.
  4. Green algae: friend or foe? Discuss giving examples. SECTION B
  5. Write a note on the following terms: diffuse competition; niche overlap; limiting similarity; ‘ghost of competition past’.
  6. Write a note on three of the following topics in conservation genetics; a) inbreeding depression b) genetic rescue c) genetic diversity d) forensics e) invasive species.
  7. Write an essay describing the use of molecular tools to address ecological questions in marine science.
  8. Describe the changes in behaviour, physical form and condition, physiological status and hormonal profile that are associated with the smoltification process in salmonids.
