RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROBLEMS

F. Ionizing radiation can disrupt normal cell division associated with oogenesis and spermatogenesis, leading to changes in genetic structure of gametes G. Chemical exposure from occupational hazards or misuse of household chemicals can decrease sperm count, motility, and change morphology, as well as cause menstrual cycle changes G. Specific conditions

  1. Uterine bleeding: age, family history, stress, weight change, oral contraceptives, intrauterine device (IUD)
  2. Dysmenorrhea: smoking, early menarche
  3. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID): use of IUD, oral contraceptives, and condoms, STI, multiple sex partners, previous PID
  4. Endometriosis: nulliparity, family history
  5. Benign breast disease: age
  6. Breast cancer: age, family history (first-degree relative with breast cancer), ethnicity (Caucasian or African American), previous chest area radiation (i.e.,

treatment for Hodgkin's disease), menarche before age 12 or menopause after age 50, use of hormone replacement therapy over 5 years, nulliparous or first pregnancy after age 30, never breastfed, daily alcohol use, obesity *FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROBLEMS Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB)
