Blunt trauma, blunt injury, non-penetrating trauma or blunt
force trauma refers to physical trauma caused to a body part,
either by impact, injury or physical attack; the latter usually
being referred to as blunt force trauma. example- steering
wheel, seat belt

DEFINITION 2
Penetrating trauma is an injury that occurs when an object
pierces the skin and enters a tissue of the body, creating an
open wound.

tension pneumothorax
DEFINITION 3
Rapid accumulation of air. A pneumothora x is an abnormal collection of
air or gas in the pleural space that separa tes the lung from the chest wall
and which may interfere with normal brea thing. Resp and Circulatory syst
affected. results in a one-way valve being cre ated. Air leaks from
the lung out into the pleural space a nd is unable to escape,
resulting in increased intrapleural p ressure. Intrapleural
pressure eventually increases to th e point where it interfere s
with venous return, resulting in blo od pooling in capacitance
vessels with ensuing cardiova scular collapse and shock

A hemothorax is a condition that results from blood
accumulating in the pleural cavity. frequently w/ Open
pneumothorax.

DEFINITION 5
Thoracentesis, (from Greek, thorax + centesis, puncture)an
invasive procedure to remove fluid or air from the pleural
space for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. A cannula, or
hollow needle, is carefully introduced
