Professor: Dr. Kevin Chouinard Overview In this course, you will learn about sets, logic, matrices, relations, counting, functions, graphs, trees, and codes. You will also improve your quantitative reasoning and develop your deductive logic skills. Prerequisite : The following are required for entry into this course: ● MTH 174 (Calculus II) or equivalent ● the ability to read a math textbook ● excellent study habits ● mathematical maturity and problem solving aptitude If you feel you lack any of these, please contact me immediately. Top Objectives If you complete this course and do well, you will be able to: ● solve problems involving the concepts of sets ● understand the logical process, methods of proof and Boolean algebra ● solve problems using the basic principles of counting theory ● solve problems involving functions and relations ● solve graph problems and understand related graph algorithms ● understand trees, including spanning trees and tree traversal algorithms Top Materials Top Grading Your course grade will be determined according to the following percentages. Assignment Points Percentage of Grade Exam 1 50 20 % Exam 2 50 20 % Exam 3 50 20 % Quizzes ( 15 ) 75 30 % Discussion Board 25 10 % The discussion board component of the grade is based on the student's activity level within the forums.
