Globalization Essay Globalization is the connection of various parts of the world as a consequence of technology, economic, international trade, culture, and political activities. This term is defined and analyzed differently. For the past 2-3 centuries, the world has been becoming a more integrated place, and the recent decades, in particular, saw the biggest changes in many countries, especially in terms of economics and culture. Many people believe that globalization is responsible for many positive changes, including better economies in numerous countries. However, some other people also claim that there are negative sides of globalization that must not be neglected. I strongly agree that globalization helped the world in economic terms, but there is environmental and cultural damage of this phenomenon, and there must be solutions so as to guarantee a sustainable future. Based on Friedman’s arguments the world is flat, this is the idea that catches my attention, and it makes me show the world as “flatten” because of globalization. He interprets globalization the combination of business, technology, and economics. I partly agree with this view as nowadays we can connect to the other side of the world in matter of seconds via email, phone calls and the internet which means the world is shrunk in terms of size. People have no speedy access in previous centuries, but technologies are advancing due to globalization. Borders between countries is changing to a simple line just like on the map, as trade and economic
opportunities bring countries together. Economic windows are opening that investments can easily capital money, resources to other countries resulting in connection of the people. In past years, this kind of process took much time, now it is easy to carry out. Friedman’s evidence does in fact support his main viewpoints. In addition to coming up with well-informed opinion, he also offers facts that are backed up by historical occurrences. He gives the reader the freedom to utilize these details as puzzle pieces to position globalization in its proper historical context. The information provided aids in understanding his great viewpoint on how interconnected everyone is on a global scale and how the world has flattened out in comparison to earlier times. Through the ages, trade, speed, economics, globalization, and much more have all been significantly impacted. It is true that we all increasingly know about current affairs in a short period of time that seemed impossible in past centuries that shows the outsized impact of globalization. Controversially, Ghemawat’s opinions states the world is only semi-globalized. Their ideas are contradicted in some cases. According to Ghemawat, even though we all have quick access around the world, not many people can take advantages of it that means the world is not fully globalized. I consider this is somehow true, as in my native country Uzbekistan, there is not a high percentage of people who can use the internet or take advantage of faster transportation. However, it is not difficult to predict the world will be fully shrinking soon if everything continues changing rapidly. Another opinion that Ghemawat’s ideas conflicted with Friedman about trade. I admit the economic and trade between countries is growing and globalization makes contribution to the existing developments. Based on reading, Friedman himself consider the economic is growing dramatically, but statistics prove international trade percentage is not high that shows Friedman is rather wrong here.
In conclusion, it is clear that globalization, in fact, does have its advantages and disadvantages. However, I believe it cannot be stopped but certain measures will help regulate the effects of globalization. For instance, in order to avoid more environmental issues, alternative sources of energy must be promoted, and deforestation must be ceased. In terms of culture, governments around the world have to create special programs that are aimed at preserving nation’s heritage and teaching the younger generations values that are passed down from generation to generation.
