Reflection Week 8 NR605: Differential Diagnosis
Reflection Week 8 Describe how learning in this course helped you to meet Program Outcome 2: Create a caring environment for achieving quality health outcomes. (Care-Focused). Provide at least two specific examples. During this session I learned how to Formulate appropriate diagnoses and evidence- based treatment plans using psychosocial theory, psychotherapy and psychopharmacologic modalities for management of common mental health diagnoses based on the needs of the patient and family. I learned that social interactions and relationships play a intricate role in development and that development continues over the course of our lifespan. In this we learn to focus on the connection between the patient’s personal and social history which include their culture, life experiences and all important relationships. Once this is understood the appropriate psychotherapy can be determined. For example Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is used to address negative thoughts and behaviors that are the basis for mental disturbances. The goal of CBT are to increase resilience, coping skills along with problem solving skills all while Increasing self-esteem and/or self-efficacy (David, 2020). There are time that Psychopharmacologic Modalities must be used in conjunction with psychotherapy to achieve optimal results. Such as in the case of severe anxiety. A person’s anxiety can be to a point that they may need a psychopharmacological intervention before they can participate and benefit from psychotherapy (Khalil, 2019). To Effectively diagnose
best practices ensure optimal cost effective outcomes (Stein & Milne, 2019). Select one of the competencies from the NONPF Independent Practice Competency listed below and describe how learning in this course helped you to meet the competency. Provide at least two specific examples. The competency that I have decided to highlight is” Critically analyzes data and evidence for improving advanced nursing practice...” For example, Active Empathetic listening is an evidence based technique that has been proven. active listening builds and maintains therapeutic alliances and bonds by showing empathy and creating opportunities for healing and growth (Ruben & Seemiller, 2021). In advance practice nursing by ensuring consistent interactions with the patient the includes asking personal questions and actively listening shows the patient that someone cares and is concerned about their well-being. It is very important to avoid any distractions such as cell phones. This is an imperative scientifically proven technique that all providers should use to achieve positive outcomes. References
