NEW AND IMPROVED INSTRUCTIONS FOR TURNING PORTFOLIO #1
Use a pocket folder to turn your portfolio in. Loose papers are not acceptable.
Due on Thursday, June 18 – no later than 11:00 a.m. unless you turn in a voucher.
Include the following. Label each item with a post-it note
1. Final copy of your essay
2. One key document, something that helped you make progress with your paper
3. One draft, one that shows change and progress
4. A reflective cover letter. This is a separate, 2-page (or about that much) document.
In your cover letter answer these questions in paragraph form. Don’t number them.
Re-read the “Interview With Kim Barnes” for ideas about how much detail to include
in this:
oTell the story of how you proceeded with the research for your paper. How
did you decide on your topic? What did you do from there? Describe each
step as you moved ahead with researching.
oTell the story of how you wrote the paper. As you do this, write about the
documents you included in this portfolio. What role did each play? How did
each help you to make progress?
oWrite about a revision you are particularly proud of. Identify where this is in
your finished paper and how that’s different from an earlier version. Refer to
page numbers from your final copy and your draft when you write about this.
oWrite about something you wish you’d done better. Explain where this is in
your paper and talk about how you think you might adjust this in your next
paper.
oWhat else should I know about your research and/or your writing that you
haven’t said already?
Manuscript guidelines require the following. -5 points for each deviation:
4-6 pages + bibliography
Page # on every page
12-point font
Double-spacing
Title for your essay
Black ink
Grading scale:
A = 100 points C+ = 79 D- = 65
A- = 90 C = 75 F = maximum of 64; possibly less, depending
B+ = 89 C- = 70 the level of incompleteness of the portfolio
B = 85 D+ = 69
B- = 80 D = 67
