This closed book exam consists of 11 questions on 6 pages {including this cover sheet). You must show your work on the first four questions, which will be graded for possible partial credit. The remaining questions are multiple choice and true/false, and carry no partial credit. Do not separate the exam. If any pages should become detached, write your name on them and point them out when you turn in your exam. Only those exams turned in by the end of the in-class examination period will be graded « Please read the instructions for each individual exercise carefully. For each exercise (in problems 1 to 4), show an appropriate amont of work in an organized way so that graders can see not only your answer but also how you obtained it. Use units where appropriate. You should not need extra paper as this exam has space for you to work the problems. « A scientific calculator is permitted. Calculators with substantial graphical capabilities and calcu- lators with programming or computer algebra capabilities, such as the TI-89 or the T1-92, will not be allowed during the exam. * Calculator cases, prohibited calculating devices, and all communications devices or computers of any kind (such as cell phones, Laptops. PDA's, i-pods and CD players) must be put away for the duration of the exam. Also, all items like jackets, hats, and other head-coverings must be removed during the exam. « Suspected academic dishonesty will be dealt with following guidelines established by the University and the Department of Mathematics. « Answers must be exact unless an approximation is specifically requested. ¢ This exam is worth 90 points. Each exercise (or group of them) is worth an amount of points as given in the table below. Note that the raw score total is 95 points.
