Public Health Introduction Every community requires a health system in place to make sure that its citizen’s health is well catered for (Wolf-Fordham, 2020). A health system is important because it helps to ensure that people have access to quality medical care. It also helps to protect people from financial ruin in the event of a serious illness or injury. The Pasco and Hernando County Public Health Department’s Community and Mental Health of the Public Health Department provides an array of services to individuals with mental health needs, among other needs. It also works to control the spread of infectious diseases, including working with patients who have infectious diseases, investigating outbreaks, and providing education to the community about how to prevent the spread of infection. They may be responsible for providing care to patients, educating patients and the public about health and wellness, conducting research, and advocating for policy change. The most surprising service the health department provides is the immunization clinic, which is open to everyone in the community. The Hernando County Health Department provides immunization services to residents to help protect them from diseases. The department also offers education on the importance of immunizations and how to properly receive them. The Baker Act can also be used to get people the treatment they need when they are not able to make decisions about their care. If there are no beds available for children who are Baker Acted in Hernando County, they are typically sent to one of the nearby counties that has available beds.
