MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

  1. The programme comprises 10 courses (30 AU) or 8 courses (24 AU) + MSc dissertation
  2. 5 of the courses must be taken from Civil Engineering. The remaining courses can be selected from a list approved by the School.
  3. The dissertation option is available only to part-time (need to get approval from AC(Research) first) students who have done well after taking 4 courses or more. (CGPA= 4.0 or average grade of B+)
  4. To take the dissertation option, permission must be obtained from the Associate Chair (Research) of the School. You and supervisor must fill out a dissertation form.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

  1. The courses should be selected from an approved list (see MSc Civil Engineering programme http://www.cee.ntu.edu.sg website).
  2. Some of the courses on the approved list may not be offered in any academic year. Try to complete as many Civil Engineering courses as possible offered in each semester.
  3. For cross-programme course registration, students are allowed to register up to a maximum of 2 International Construction Management courses or a maximum of 2 Maritime Studies courses throughout their course of study, subjected to School’s approval.
  4. Students who have successfully completed the programme shall be awarded the degree of MSc (Civil Engineering).

THE TWO AREAS OF SPECIALISATION

1. Students in the MSc (Civil Engineering) programme can opt to follow

a concentrated study in one of the two specialisation areas in addition

to the general Civil Engineering area.

A. Geotechnical Engineering (Full-time & Part-time)

B. Structural Engineering (Part-time only)

Students who completed the MSc (Civil) with specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering could meet requirements for the registration as Specialist Professional Engineer in Geotechnical Engineering with the Professional Engineers Board.

IMPORTANT!

If you want to graduate in 1 year (2 semesters),

you must take 5 courses in each semester (Full-time students).

In any case,

the minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average is 2.50 (C+).

If your CGPA < 2.50, you cannot graduate.

IMPORTANT!

Students are allowed to register no more than 10 courses in

the course registration system, unless:

i) he or she has a failed course;

i) upon completing 10 courses, CGPA is less than 2.5,

student are then allowed to take 1 or 2 more (case-by-case)

in order to work towards graduation.
