Factors Affecting Population Growth in Ecosystems: Tangible & Intangible Limits, Slides of Ecosystem Modelling

An overview of limiting factors in ecosystems, focusing on tangible and intangible factors that impact population growth. Tangible factors include climate, sunlight, water, and shelter, while intangible factors include diseases, food availability, and predators. Real-life examples are given to illustrate how these factors influence ecological balance. Students can refer to the provided resources for further study.

What you will learn

  • What are tangible limiting factors in ecosystems?
  • How do limiting factors affect ecological balance?
  • What are intangible limiting factors in ecosystems?

LIMITING FACTOR

  • Limiting Factors: Any factor or condition that limits the growth of the population in an ecosystem
  • Tangible: able to touch or feel
  • Tangible Example: Climate, the available shelter, sunlight, and water
  • Non tangible: objects or nouns that can not be touched or felt
  • Nontangible Examples: Diseases, available food, and hunting animals

DEFINITION AND EXAMPLES

“ Ecology is the science of the study of ecosystems. Ecological balance has been defined by various online dictionaries “as a state of dynamic equilibrium within a community of organisms in which genetic, species and ecosystem diversity remain relatively stable, subject to gradual change through natural succession.” and “A stable balance in the number of each species in an ecosystem.”

“The most important point being that the natural balance in an ecosystem is maintained. This balance may be distributed due to the introduction of introduced species, the sudden death of some species, the natural hazards or man-made causes.” Citations:
