Fall 2005
Department of Engineering & Design at Eastern Washington University Assigned: October 11, 2005 Due: October 24, 2005 We have discussed several issues regarding electricity in the last few days. In preparation for the rest of the class, which will complete the survey of these issues, some research and reading is to be done. This assignment will ask you to choose a topic that is (at least vaguely) related to whatever we have discussed in class, or is in the syllabus, or that you would simply like to be addressed at some point in the remaining of the quarter. You are to research current literature (newspapers, magazines, technical publications, journals, etc.) and find at least 3 and not more than 6 articles that deal with the topic your previously chose. You are to turn in a 2 page (double spaced, 1 inch margin everywhere, 11pt Times Roman font, thoroughly proofread) essay describing the issue you are discussing, its relation to the class, the viewpoints of the articles you chose, and your own opinions about it. Include a paragraph on how the topic you chose is related to an engineer’s professional, ethical and social responsibilities, within the context of contemporary societal and global perspectives. You must attach photocopies of all articles you researched. This assignment, of course, is to be done in groups of at least 2 people, but no more than 5.
