Annotated Bibliography: A Display of Critical Thinking and Writing Skills
Definition: An Annotated Bibliography offers a comprehensive review of the literature on a particular
subject. It is similar to a regular Bibliography or Works Cited list. The major difference, however, is that
each entry includes an annotation describing the aim, purpose, or content of each work on the list.
Moreover, the Annotated Bibliography presents an organized list of sources such as books, journals,
newspapers, magazines, web pages, and so on, each of which is followed by an annotation or analysis of
each item.

Zora Neale Hurston. Hachman is a visiting lecturer at Harvard University, and his aim
is to provide accurate information about Hurston and to destroy some of the negative
publicity surrounding her life and death. The appendix of this article includes two black
and white photographs of Hurston in Harlem, New York in l936 and l942, respectively.
This entry is very useful to Hurston scholars because it provides a comprehensive
analysis of her activities in New York during the Harlem Renaissance.
