K201 Lecture Case Study: Kelley Technology Services
Welcome!
Welcome aboard the Kelley Technology Services project as one of our new data analysts! My
name is Joanna Gibbons. I’m one of the partners at K201 Consulting, and I’ll be your project
manager (i.e., your boss) for this project. K201 Consulting specializes in strategic
implementations of IT in the education industry, which is why we’ve been paired up with
Tech Services to evaluate various aspects of how they can and are strategically using IT at
Kelley.
As K201 students, you guys are in a unique position to consult Tech Services, as you’ll be
introduced to many different topics regarding IT in business throughout the semester. We’ll
break up into a number of teams, but collectively we’ll all work towards providing our expert
business analysis for Tech Services and their IT initiatives. Tech Services expect us to give
them specific, concrete recommendations that they can use. Your perspective as a student
in Kelley and your growing knowledge of IT in business means that you’ll be able to give
them just that!
Please see more information and links below to familiarize yourselves with Tech Services.
Before you can consult any organization, of course you must first understand who they are
and what they do!
Case Background
Technology Services (TS) provide IT support for all Kelley School of Business faculty and
staff. TS assist faculty and staff in administrative, academic, and research computing needs.
They also maintain the classroom technologies for Kelley. Recently, IU issued a strategic
plan for empowering people using technology. Technology Services are responsible for
ensuring that Kelley meets the charges set forth in that document. It is a long document,
but an important one to read! http://ovpit.iu.edu/strategic2/*
In order to have a better understanding of the objectives and organizational structure of TS,
