You will write an analysis dealing with leadership and framing. The analysis will be based on specific principles, concepts, or approaches from The Art of Framing: Managing the Language of Leadership by Fairhurst and Sarr. Other relevant readings you find or that you are directed to will help you plan a particular analysis approach.
You will focus the analysis on an artifact/case/text. This artifact/case/text will be chosen and approved in the early weeks of the semester. It is critical that your artifact/case/text is well suited as an example of leader framing. However, the analysis should be more than simply a demonstration that you can illustrate leadership framing issues. Pick an artifact/case/text for which is "worthy" of such an analysis. Part of your assignment will be providing a convincing rationale for the analysis.
Your paper should be in APA style. Include a proper cover page. Organize your analysis paper using the following structure. Use all APA headings below to section your paper content, and include additional subheadings as needed.
(Include an introduction/rationale section but do not include a section heading label)
Leadership and Framing
Artifact (or Case or Text) Overview
Analysis
Conclusions and Discussion
References
In addition, you may want to an Appendix (or Appendices) that includes relevant materials related to the analysis (e.g., field notes, transcriptions, artifacts chosen for analysis, etc.).

Evaluation Scale: Excellent = 4, Good = 3, Fair = 2, Poor = 1, Unacceptable = 0
Rationale: 4 3 2 1 0 x 1 = _____ The paper makes a clear and well supported argument for the value (practical and/or theoretical and/or methodological) of the analysis. Rationale is supported both with reason and with reference to a variety of credible sources.
Leadership and Framing: 4 3 2 1 0 x 3 = _____ Discussion provides a good introduction to and understanding of the idea of framing as an essential element of leadership. The quantity and quality of discussion and the variety of referenced sources demonstrate that the author has thorough and accurate theoretical knowledge. In addition to a broad discussion of leadership and framing, the author offers more fully developed discussion of the specific aspects of framing that will serve as the basis for this analysis.
Artifact/Case/Text Overview: 4 3 2 1 0 x 2 = _____ Discussion provides background information needed for understanding the rest of the analysis. Information provided is complete and detailed while demonstrating discernment in that no unnecessary, irrelevant, or superfluous material is included.
Analysis: 4 3 2 1 0 x 3 = _____ Author clearly explains and justifies particulars of the analysis process (methods) used. The analysis itself is thorough, all observations are supported with vivid example and direct reference to artifact/case/text content, and a sufficient number of specific examples are cited to justify any general claims.
Conclusions and Discussion: 4 3 2 1 0 x 2 = _____ Conclusions are reasonable, limited, and serve to focus and synthesize more specific analysis observations. Author answers the “So what?” question by demonstrating practical and/or theoretical and/or methodological implications. Conclusions and implications are connected to current knowledge base through reference to a variety of credible sources.
Mechanics, Style, & Structure: 4 3 2 1 0 x 2 = _____ Proper wording and phrasing are used, and writing is free from errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. Writing style is consistent with expectations for a scholarly research report. Idea development is supported by the proper use of paragraphs, section headings, transitions, controlling sentences, etc.
