Lab 6: Danfoss Orbital Gear Motor

Learning outcomes:

 Disassemble and assemble Danfoss Orbital gear motor.  Identify the part number and components of the gear motor.  Identify the flow paths of pressure, return and drain  Calculate the theoretical flow, speed and torque

Procedure:

  1. Record the part number of the Danfoss motor OMP 100 151 7023-
  2. Follow the procedure below and reference material from Sauer Danfoss on pages 2-
  3. Remove the 7 bolts that hold together the motor gear assembly.
  4. Remove the gear wheel set.
  5. Remove the Carden shaft
  6. Remove the spool valve (output shaft).
  7. Remove 6 screws from the front of the motor and remove seal and bearing.
  8. Observe and follow the oil flow path from the motor housing inlet and outlet ports to the spool valve (output shaft).
  9. Follow the flow path of the hole drilled in the spool valve.
  10. Recognize how the oil travels from the inlet port to the gearwheel set and the oil path back to the outlet port.
  11. Remove the internal gear from the fixed external gear and examine both gears for indication of wear. External gear can be identified as the one having gear teeth on the outside and the internal gear having teeth on the inside.
  12. Fill in the information in the table below.
  13. Use micrometer to take the measurements. All measurements should be in inches.
  14. Re-assemble the motor. Spool Valve bearing diameter front end 1.647 inch Spool Valve rear end diameter 1.370 inch Thickness of the rotating gear wheel (external gear) 0.407 inch Thickness of the fixed gear wheel (internal gear) 0.408 inch What is the thickness clearance between external and internal gear wheels? 0.001 inch How many teeth are on the external gear? 7 How many teeth are on the internal gear? 6
