a more effective college student.
Instructions: Answer the questions below – some may take only a few words, others may take a short
paragraph.
Quotes: There should be NO quotes in this assignment, only paraphrasing. To assess your understanding of
the concepts, I need to see you put things in your own words - not your instructor’s or those of our textbook
authors! To paraphrase effectively, you shouldn’t just reorder words in a passage, or look for synonyms in
the thesaurus – actually write your sentence without looking at the textbook/lecture passage! For additional

4. Watch two of the videos on How to Study found here. Identify two ineffective or counterproductive beliefs
and study strategies you use in preparing for your exams. Then discuss the changes you will make to fix the
issues in your preparation for your future exams. Relate the changes specifically to the videos. For
example: I always watch TV when I’m studying and working on assignments. Video 1 points out that this is
bad – that we can’t focus on multiple things at once. To help me study better, I will remove distractions when
I study so I can concentrate better. (10)
5. To help you become a competitive applicant for your future careers and grad programs, you need to get
involved in different professional development experiences in undergrad such as research, teaching,
internship, and extracurriculars. State what career/general path you’re interested in. Then list at least
two experiences you plan to get involved with and explain in-depth why you think each is important/will
help you achieve your career goals. For ideas/suggestions, refer to the Student Engagement lecture day with
guest speakers and check out the 4-year plan tab on Blackboard. (30)
