A. Text Talk: In this chapter, Kauchak described how the concept of
school choice has resulted in two educational innovations: charter schools and vouchers.
Identify one positive and one controversial aspect of each.
B. Search And Find: Go to
http://www.education.ky.gov/KDE/Administrative+Resources/Finance+and+Funding/
Federal+Program+Funding/Title+Programs and choose two programs to use for this part
of the assignment. Briefly describe the purpose of each program in the state of Kentucky.
C. What’s New? Find a current (2007-08) news article or website on a topic related to No
Child Left Behind. Write a 150-word summary of the information you discovered. Cite
your source – APA style.
D. This and That: To help you begin thinking about the role of school finance in your
teaching career, locate the website of your former local school district. Browse the site’s
budget section concerning the teacher salary schedule. How do these figures compare to
ones mentioned in your text? If your former district has no website, conduct independent
research to find the required figures. ( All Kentucky districts have websites.)
