EDU 103 Issues and Practices of American Education
Please bring your typed responses to the following items with you the day the chapter is discussed in class. The assignment is due when class begins. A. Text Talk: In this chapter, Kauchak described how the concept of school choice has resulted in two educational innovations: charter schools and vouchers. Identify one positive and one controversial aspect of each. B. Search And Find: Go to http://www.education.ky.gov/KDE/Administrative+Resources/Finance+and+Funding/ Federal+Program+Funding/Title+Programs and choose two programs to use for this part of the assignment. Briefly describe the purpose of each program in the state of Kentucky. C. What’s New? Find a current (2007-08) news article or website on a topic related to No Child Left Behind. Write a 150-word summary of the information you discovered. Cite your source – APA style. D. This and That: To help you begin thinking about the role of school finance in your teaching career, locate the website of your former local school district. Browse the site’s budget section concerning the teacher salary schedule. How do these figures compare to ones mentioned in your text? If your former district has no website, conduct independent research to find the required figures. ( All Kentucky districts have websites.)
You are responsible for reading the chapter as well as other assigned pages for the chapter quiz and/or formal examinations.
