Welcome! ¡Bienvenido! Welcome to Speed Spanish—the language course designed to teach you español. ¡Hola! My name is Dan Mikels, and I'm happy to see that you want to learn Spanish. Please call me Dan. My name is Dan. Me llamo Daniel... Chances are you are taking this course for one or more of the following reasons: You want to learn Spanish for business-related reasons. You've selected this course because you're planning a trip to a Spanish-speaking country. You've married into a Spanish-speaking family, and you want to know what your in-laws have been saying about you. You want to learn Spanish just for the fun of it. If you want to understand the culture of Spain, Mexico, or any Latin-American country, it's an excellent idea that you learn the Spanish language. By learning the language, you will not only become more mobile within the country, but you will come to understand and to know perhaps the greatest attraction of all the Spanish-speaking countries—its people! If you've come into contact with many Spanish-speaking people, you already know how extremely courteous they are. When invited into their home it's not uncommon to hear: 'My house is your house'—'Mi casa es su casa.' Whether you want to travel to Pamplona, Spain to watch the Running of the Bulls, or vacation in Mexico, you have a great adventure in store. But if you do not know any Spanish, you are cutting yourself off from complex and interesting people who have inherited a unique and fascinating history.
But perhaps there's another reason why you want to learn Spanish. Is it because of business-related reasons? Are you finding that your job demands that you learn Spanish? No matter what your reason(s) for learning Spanish, the goal of this course is to teach you to read, write, and speak Spanish. ¡Qué bueno! During this course, you're going to learn hundreds of vocabulary words, lots of frequently used one-liners, and six recipes. These six recipes are very important because they will show you how to 'glue' Spanish words together in order to produce sentences. Perhaps you already know a little Spanish. Perhaps you know a few words in Spanish. Even though you may know a little Spanish, wouldn't you like to know how to 'glue' these words together so that you can create sentences? I will show you how to do this. It's my goal to make you as fluent as possible in Spanish. (Be sure to check out the FAQs section, ‘Frequently Asked Questions'). If you've never taken Spanish before, this is fantastic—since you can improve your Spanish skills more than anyone else! During this first lesson you will come to learn Recipe 1: The Magic Circle. This recipe will be one of six recipes you will learn during this course. But first things first. Before anything else (antes que nada), you need to learn Spanish pronunciation.
To get the most out of a foreign language course, it helps to hear new words and phrases pronounced correctly as you learn their meanings and practice saying them on your own. So throughout the course, we've provided audio buttons you can click to hear the correct pronunciations of a selection of the Spanish words and phrases you'll learn
