Unit A

Autobiography

I am Blessing Ledwaba, a third year B.Ed

student with a passion for teaching and

academics. I have high hopes and big dreams

for my career and I believe it is possible with

enough dedication and hard work.

Given the opportunity, I would love to work with

learners with special education needs because I

feel it is such a blessing to give hope to the

children who feel different and less than. What

drove my decision was that I want to change

the narrative around disability from 'people who

are objects of the health industry' to 'subjects of

society.'

(iii)

Teaching Statement

As a student teacher, I believe that as teachers

we are trained to assume the role and

responsibility of leaders who adapt, refine and

redesign the school curriculum to optimise the

learning for our specific learners. I appreciate

the fact that policies have been and are still

being documented to ensure that human rights

principles are valued taken into consideration.

Inclusive Education is very important because

children's diversity and basic human rights need

to be respected if we are to move forward as a

society that is transforming prejudice.

Different lessons need to be taught in different

styles. What works for this lesson won't

necessarily work for the next. We are to plan,

organise, teach and reflect on our practices in

order to progress in our teaching.

skin colour and abilities but to take advantage

of what they can learn from peers and adults.

UNIT B

With this module being so open, resources provided and lecturers supportive, the experience has been empowering with valuable knowledge of relevant practical approaches to develop and maintain a successful classroom environment. The pairing of this ISC3701 module with the Inclusive Education modules also allows us to get information from different angles. Most of the interaction happened on Telegram with other students, but I prefer to work alone, therefore I did most of my work on my own with just clarification from lecturers and fellow students. For assignment 1 - quiz, I obtained 60% and for assignment 2 - written, I obtained 94%, in my opinion there has been major growth. I have no regrets for this module and I believe I have been doing my best. 1

UNIT C

Activity 1.6, no 4 By integrating and incorporating different instruction strategies in my teaching. As a teacher, you are meant to guide and create an environment that is conducive for learners inquiry, therefore my role would be to support learner's holistic development by using multiple perspectives, knowledge construction, intentional activities and resources, active participation and a learner-centred approach to accommodate every type of need. My classroom will be an inquiry-based classroom where I teach learners how to think and not what to think. This way, they can control the direction of the lesson and I maintain the atmosphere of a classroom that serves them. I will then also build on to the ideas and knowledge they already have. 4

using technology and one-on-one assistance. This model and approach allows learners to enquire according to their specific intelligences and learning styles. Activity 3. I am not surprised. Assessment of outcomes reached needs to be identified after setting the goals and objectives of the lesson. Disadvantage - assessment could be biased and unfair to some due to specific goals and objectives. Advantage - you will know exactly what you want to assess and how to yield those results. Activity 4.  Before they teach the lesson

  1. Does this lesson aim to put the needs of learners first? 6
  1. Is the teaching method suitable for the content and learner's needs?
  2. Are the materials to be used relevant for this lesson?
  3. Is the design clear enough to allow someone else to teach with it?  While they are teaching the lesson
  4. Does this lesson promote the active participation of learners?
  5. Are the slower learners encouraged to participate?
  6. Is the delivery of the lesson effective? 4.Is the teaching method/strategy working? 7

UNIT D

1.1. 1. Aims/goals: It is important to identify the goals the lesson has to achieve according to the needs of learners.

  1. Outcomes: What content/skill must the learner be able to demonstrate after the lesson?
  2. Teaching resources: What materials will assist in teaching and learning? (e.g. worksheets, blocks, books, charts, etc.)
  3. Assessment: An assessment task or test must be put in place to see if the goals and outcomes have been reached. (e.g. questions, small tasks, etc.)
  4. Reflection: At the end of a lesson a teacherust look at the overall lesson experience to see if it was successful or weak and how it can be improved. 9

10

1.3. In the case of another teacher using your lesson plan to teach that lesson themselves, they need to be able to implement the lesson, activities, assessment using the materials listed to deliver the lesson in the intended and suitable method. Time, engagement, approach and the experience were all considered when the lesson plan was designed with the intention of it succeeding. 1.5. 1. Mismanagement of time.

  1. Failure to involve all learners.
  2. Objectives and goals not being met.
  3. Disorganised resources.
  4. Content not being well taught or learnt. 12

UNIT E

Summary Statement. I feel very confident about my portfolio because it has my honest reflections and it shows that I have been making progress in this module. I feel that I have pieced it together we'll, used creativity where needed and most importantly my honest perspective. I appreciate Unit B especially because reflecting on my journey with this module showed me that even with personal responsibilities and 9 other modules, I have done well and my goal of passing with a distinction might just be achieved. Also, after having designed more than 60 lesson plans this year, Question 1.2 went smoothly. 13
