Millennials and The Rise of the Information Society
The digital age, also known as the Information age, is a
period when the computer and the internet were introduced.
It is caused by the rapid shift from traditional industry to
computerization all the way to artificial intelligence which
was brought by the Industrial Revolution. These technologies
enabled people to communicate information easily and
rapidly.
Digital Technology has become prevalent and widely used
around the world. Information can be accessed easily,
especially with the use of the internet. House chores and
jobs are getting automated with the help of machines and
equipment. Mobile phones have become very useful in every
area of life --- in education, entertainment, jobs, etc. Digital
technologies have radically changed the way people work,
consume, and communicate over a short period of time.
The ICT and its Role in Social Change
-Information Communications Technology (ICT)
has the power to transform society. ICT is defined as
a group of interrelated technologies (electronic
devices) for accessing, processing, and
disseminating information. It is a system of electronic
networks activated through complex hardware and

These technologies enabled people to communicate information easily and rapidly.  Digital Technology has become prevalent and widely used around the world. Information can be accessed easily, especially with the use of the internet. House chores and jobs are getting automated with the help of machines and equipment. Mobile phones have become very useful in every area of life --- in education, entertainment, jobs, etc. Digital technologies have radically changed the way people work, consume, and communicate over a short period of time.   • Information Communications Technology (ICT) has the power to transform society. ICT is defined as a group of interrelated technologies (electronic devices) for accessing, processing, and disseminating information. It is a system of electronic networks activated through complex hardware and

software systems linked by a vast array of technical protocols.

  • Social change refers to a transformation of culture and social organizations/structures over time.
  • The emergence of Internet , World Wide Web, mobile cell phones, digital television, and several other new electronic devices pertaining to information and communication technologies (ICTs) are opening a fresh passageway for transforming the way we live, work, learn, communicate, and provides a strategic opportunity of diverse and significant social and economic benefits to people across the communication strategic opportunity globe. It also enables financial inclusion through e-commerce and allows people to connect with millions instantaneously.
  • Social change refers to a transformation of culture and social organizations/structures over time. The advent of new technologies, the world of entertainment is constantly evolving. Digital broadcasting has completely changed the way we experience television and radio. Cinema can now be found in the comfort of your home through applications such as Netflix, iFlix, etc.

Effects of ICT

 Recreates formal learning experiences through virtual platforms using modern ICT tools.  Extends formal education structure and services to learners through virtual classrooms.  Jobs and Earnings Employment serves multiple crucial roles for human well-being -Provides income security. -Offers time structure. -Facilitates social contact. -Instills a sense of purpose. -Confers a valued social position. -Allows for skill utilization. The digital transformation significantly impacts labor market effects on well-being

  • Alters labor market composition.
  • Replaces certain skillset jobs with technology or higher skilled labor. -Potentially leads to the complete automation of certain jobs. Digitalization presents opportunities:
    • Creates employment in new and existing industries.
    • Enables job-to-job mobility through online job search tools. The digital economy shifts the nature of work:
    • Fewer physical demands in jobs.
    • More emotional strain on desk-workers. Emerging opportunities in the digital economy:
    • New jobs in ICT and various sectors. Reasons for technological progress leading to job creation:
    • Efficiency gains and cost-savings can spur job creation within industries.
  • Benefits include improved time management and reduced commuting.
  • Teleworkers tend to have higher job satisfaction. Positive effects observed:

  • Increased flexibility in work schedule.
  • Enhanced overall work-life balance.

  • Mental health issues linked to excessive digital technology use, particularly among young people.
