DESCRIPTION AND NAME OF AWARD
OSSTF/FEESO IAN CAMERON ARM NEWSLETTER AWARD
PURPOSE
The Provincial ARM Council wishes to recognize an ARM Chapter Newsletter Editor who has
demonstrated outstanding efforts in developing a newsletter for their ARM Chapter that
combines the categories of content, visual appeal and engagement.
The award is named after Ian Cameron, one of the initial members of ARM Council. For over
15 years, Ian held many positions in ARM Chapter 12, Toronto, including serving as Chapter
President for 10 years and working on the production of the Chapter 12’s newsletter, After
School. He was a strong advocate for OSSTF/FEESO retirees, including the area of pensions
and benefits, and assisted many Districts in developing their own ARM Chapters.
The award, which consists of a certificate, is presented biennially at the ARM Biennial
Conference.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for the Ian Cameron ARM Newsletter Award, the nominee must:
Be a current ARM member of a Chapter
Be a Chapter Newsletter Editor
An Editor will not be eligible to win the Ian Cameron Newsletter Award at consecutive ARM
Biennial General Meetings.
NOMINATIONS
The Chapter must submit two issues of the Chapter newsletter, published between
January 1, 2022 and January 31, 2023, to Provincial Office no later than February 1,
2023 at the following mailing address:

ATTN: Michelle Arsenault
No formal application or nomination is required from the Chapter. However, the Editor’s
name should appear in each issue of the newsletter.
JUDGING CRITERIA
In judging, equal weight will be given to the three categories: content, visual appeal and
engagement. These categories will be defined as follows:
Contentadequate coverage of a wide range of topics
Number and quality of articles
Currency and relevancy of articles
Chapter, provincial and community information
Humorous material
Issues for retirees

    • Number and quality of articles
    • Currency and relevancy of articles
    • Chapter, provincial and community information
    • Humorous material
    • Issues for retirees
  • Visual Appeal – Layout, design, photography, graphics
    • Layout consistent from page to page
    • Uniform font style and size (i.e. headings and articles consistent)
    • Captions for photos and clarity
    • Graphics
    • Adequate while space to balance print material
  • Engagement
    • Interest level
    • Variety of contributors

SELECTION COMMITTEE

The Director of the Communications and Political Action Department and the Secretariat Liaison(s) to ARM Council will review the submissions and make a selection.

The ARM Council Chair will send a letter of congratulations to the winning Editor with a copy to the ARM Chapter President.
